Photograph showing the cavity at the top of the head of the Great Sphinx of Giza, documented around 1930 during Émile Baraize's excavation and restoration work and later published in Archives Lacau (2017).
View west from the top of the Great Sphinx's head, with scaffolding erected during restoration work.
A gentleman standing in the cavity in the Sphinx's head provides an indication of its scale and depth. The photograph also gives a friendly nod to the earlier travellers speculation that priests once entered the Sphinx through this opening to utter oracles.
