Location of the Great Sphinx of Giza on the Giza Plateau 

The Great Sphinx of Giza located on the eastern edge of the Giza Plateau photographed from a hot air balloon in 1904. The three pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure are behind it.  In front is the ancient flood plain of the river Nile that is now largely below modern Cairo.
