Excavation and Restoration of the Great Sphinx Showing Multiple Phases (c. 1926) 

This photograph shows the Great Sphinx during excavation and restoration work in the early 20th century, revealing multiple phases of its history. The original Old Kingdom limestone body is visible alongside later repairs and surrounding structures, illustrating how the monument was modified, restored, and re-exposed over time rather than created in a single uninterrupted phase.
