Profile of the Great Sphinx of Giza with its nose already missing, illustrated by Frederik Louis Norden based on observations made in 1737–38. Published in Travels in Egypt and Nubia (1755), this image provides clear visual evidence that the damage occurred decades before Napoleon’s arrival in Egypt.
